A non-partisan coalition for better appraisal education
Training providers and industry leaders, working together for what is good for the industry.
Insurance Appraisal Authority is a non-partisan group of insurance appraisal training providers who have come together to create a national curriculum on appraisal. We have invited industry leaders to give their input so that a common-ground approach to appraisal training and education can be reached.
Who we are
We have invited all organizations that train and certify insurance appraisers and umpires to join the initiative. Respected industry leaders have already agreed to get involved, and we are now inviting the wider appraisal community (practitioners, umpires, educators and organizations) to help shape the work.
Participating organizations and contributors will be listed here as their participation is confirmed.
Thank you to those who have stepped forward.
The appraisers, umpires, educators, and industry leaders who have agreed to participate are volunteering their time and sharing lessons learned over years in the field. Their work will help shape a national curriculum that gives the next generation of appraisers and umpires a stronger foundation for resolving disputed claims. They deserve our thanks for giving back to the profession and helping turn an idea whose time has come into something we can all build on.
Our guiding principles
- Non-partisan. No side of the claim and no single training provider owns this work. Every voice committed to good appraisal practice is welcome.
- Common ground first. We build on what experienced professionals agree every appraiser and umpire should know.
- Good for the whole industry. Policyholders, insurers, professionals and regulators all gain from competent, ethical, well-documented appraisal.
- Respect for differences. The curriculum recognizes that policy language and state law differ, and teaches professionals to work within them.
- Practical. Grounded in lessons from the field, not theory alone.
- Resolution at the center. The purpose of appraisal is to resolve disputed claims; education should serve that purpose.
What we are not
We are not an insurer, a law firm or a government agency, and we do not replace any organization's own courses or certifications. The curriculum is a shared foundation that each provider can teach to in its own programs.
An independent industry initiative in development. No NAIC or state department of insurance endorsement has been obtained; participation and regulatory relationships will be announced as confirmed.
