Frequently asked questions

What is Insurance Appraisal Authority?

A non-partisan group of insurance appraisal training providers who have come together, with input from industry leaders, to create a national core curriculum for insurance appraisers and umpires.

What is the goal?

A common-ground approach to appraisal training and education, so appraisers and umpires in the field have a common platform to work from, leading to greater resolution of appraisals.

Is the initiative tied to one side of the claim?

No. It is non-partisan by design. Its aim is competent, ethical appraisal that serves policyholders, insurers and the process as a whole.

Who can take part?

Organizations that train and certify appraisers and umpires, practitioners, umpires, educators and others with experience to contribute. You can nominate yourself, a colleague or an organization.

Will the curriculum replace my current training provider?

No. It provides shared learning objectives that each provider can teach to in its own programs.

Does the curriculum reflect differences in state law?

Yes. It is designed to recognize differences in policy language and state law while setting common learning objectives.

Is the initiative endorsed by the NAIC or any state?

No. NAIC and state endorsement have not been obtained. The long-term ambition is to present the completed work to the NAIC for consideration, and to engage with state departments of insurance as licensing develops.

How do I nominate someone?

Email admin@insuranceappraisalauthority.com or message our social media page with the nominee's name, expertise, why you recommend them, and a public profile if available. Please get their permission before sharing private contact details.

Are nominations guaranteed a role?

No. Nominations are for consideration. We follow up about interest and availability, and appointments are confirmed separately.
